Solution to: Label is partially cut off

Solution to: Label is partially cut off

This section can be used as an aid if you experience, that parts of a template is missing in your print outs, when you print out labels on label printers.

Prerequisites:

  1. First make sure, that the printer has been calibrated. So if you have not calibrated the printer, then you should start by doing that.
  2. You need to determine the resolution of the printer (usually 203DPI or 300DPI).
  3. You need to make a note of these printer settings:

It is here assumed, that the Label top and Left position are both 0 as above. Any other value will shift the label output and may cause the label to be cut off. Also you need to make a note of the Print width and the Label length.
  4. Now calculate the label size in cm. based on the values seen in the Print width and Label width in the printer settings. You do that in this way:
Label width in cm. = Print width*2.54cm/Resolution. In this example the printer setting label width is 520*2.54/203 = 6.5 cm.
Label length in cm = Label length*2.54/Resolution.  In this example the printer setting label length is 411*2.54/203 = 5.14 cm.
For illustration let us consider this simple label:

Below is an example of the result of a preview on a Zebra printer where it all goes wrong:
(The preview match 100% the printed result).

So in this example the print out is missing Text2, Text4 and part of Text3.

In order to find out the reasons why the label is cut off you need to compare these sizes:
1) The page size in InterformNG2.
2) The label size of the physical media in the printer, that you can measure with a ruler.
3) The label size seen in the printer settings (calculation is included under prerequisites).

Adjustment of the widths

If you are experiencing, that the right part of the print out is missing (Text2 and Text4 in the example above), then there is an issue with one or more of the label widths.

First you need to compare the physical media width with the measurements from the printer settings. If the label width of the printer settings is smaller, then the physical width of the label, then the label will be cut off at the label width stated in the printer settings. Here you need to increase the label width in the printer settings to match the physical label width. It can of course also be, that the physical label is narrower than the label width found in the printer, then the physical label sets the limit.

Next you need to compare the page width in the InterformNG2 template with the other label widths. If the page width in the page element is larger than the printer setting label width, then the top of the print out will be cut off as shown above. The solution is to reduce the page width of the template accordingly:

You might need to redesign the template to keep within the new size.

Adjustment of the lengths

If you are experiencing, that the bottom part of the print out is missing (Text3 and Text4 in the example above), then there is an issue with one or more of the label lengths.
If the printer is calibrated, then the physical label length should match the label length in the printer settings - within a couple of mm.

The most likely problem is, that the label length stated in the page element of the template is too long compared to the physical label length. To avoid cutting off the bottom of the label you need to reduce the page length so that is not longer than the physical length
